Lehman College will be hosting a Symposium on the Short Story in Irish Language Literature on February 24 & 25, 2012. All are welcome to participate. There will be events in both Irish and English. Here are some highlights:

Events of Interest to English speakers: - Friday, February 24th: Lunch followed by four papers presented in English by students and professors of Lehman College, Sheila Houlihan, Patricia Mullally, Moire Matheson, and Deirdre O'Boy. At 5PM on Friday, Niall O'Dowd, editor and publisher, will launch for the first time in America an English language translation of Irish language short stories entitled Twisted Truths. On Saturday, February 25th: Lunch followed by a book club discussion in English of the dual language book, Bás in Éirinn: May You Die in Ireland available for purchase now on-line from http://www.litriocht.com . The discussion will be chaired by Lehman librarian, Prof. Janet Munch. 4:30PM - Wine & Cheese/Closing.

Events of Interest to Students/Instructors of the Irish Languuage: - In addition to the events above, there will also be nine papers presented in the Irish language including the following speakers on Friday 3:15-4:30PM - Rosyln Blyn-LaDrew, Pennsylvania University, Conn Mac Aogáin, Lehman College, Elaine Ní Bhraonáin, Queens College Belfast, on Saturday 9:30-10:45PM Séamus Blake, NYU, Madeleine Ní Ghallchobhair, Lehman College, Brian Ó Broin, William Paterson University and 11:00-12:15PM John Gillen, Hostos Community College, Fionnuala Ní Ráinne, National University of Ireland, Galway and Hilary Sweeney, NYU. There will also we a book club meeting with discussion in Irish regarding Bás in Éirinn: May You Die in Ireland (available for purchase on-line from http://www.litriocht.com ). Lastly, but most importantly, the keynote lecture of the symposium will be given in Irish by Professor Brian Ó Conchubhair, Notre Dame University.
