Minor in Irish Language and Literature
The CUNY Institute for Irish-American Studies received a three-year grant from 2006-2009 from the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs (Irish Government) of which Minister Éamon Ó Cuív heads. In our initial proprosal, we indicated that we would design a distance education Minor in Irish Language and Literature. That program is now in place with on-line components as well as face-to-face weekly meetings at four locations in New York City. In 2009, the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs once again awarded a three-year grant (2009-2011) to the CUNY Institute for Irish-American Studies to develop a BA in Irish Language and Literature.
The Institute has also successfully applied for a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant for the past three years. The current FLTA is Úna Ní Fhátharta from the Aran Islands.
